Problem brief

You are appointed as a network consultant for a company called CompanyX Ltd. Your role is to propose a new network design based on their requirements.

Currently this company has two double-stories building which the total number of staff is about 100 staffs. The first block occupied by Human Resource and IT Department and they have 20 staffs respectively. On the other hand, the second block is occupied by 60 support staffs. Each staff has a workstation and connected to the network. In term of network services, they have 2 servers namely Web Server and Email Server which located in IT Center.

All staffs at the company will rely on the office network for everyday communications, including email, Internet access and telephony and the senior management would like to move to a single network philosophy to provide both voice and data services.

The distance between these two offices is approximately 700 meters and is separated by an expanse of water. The local council has given the company the go ahead to lay a ground based network cable under or around the water via the main road if they need to (use a reputable firm to the job) OR The route by road would require a 1490 meter run of cable and currently there is no conduit to run this cable through.
